Julie Marley, the founder and owner of Spine and Orthopedic Specialists (SOS) Physical Therapy, has dedicated her practice to the treatment of spinal mechanical disorders since 1996. That year she became the first practitioner in Delaware to be awarded the highest level of training in the McKenzie Method of treatment: the Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. She was named to the McKenzie teaching faculty in 2000 and has taught the method widely to physical therapists, chiropractors and physicians throughout the country. Julie has served on the McKenzie Institute USA Board of Directors since 2007, and is currently completing a term as its vice-chair.
A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Julie received her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware in 1991. Prior to opening SOS Physical Therapy, she operated a small private spine specialty practice. In addition to seeing physician-referred patients and teaching, Julie has for nine years collaborated with several Christiana Spine Center physicians to plan and implement customized treatment for many of their patients.
In service of advancing research, Julie has co-authored six papers with the latter physician group, including articles that were accepted for publication in such prestigious journals as Spine and The Spine Journal. Ms. Marley and Dr. Tony Cucuzzella co-authored a chapter on rehabilitation of neck pain in the text Intervention Spine: An Algorithmic Approach. Additionally, in 2005 she presented at meetings of both The North American Spine Society and the Annual Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physicians.
